Easter Eggstravaganza
Easter is a very special time in the church calendar when we especially remember the crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The crucifixion, whilst a terrible travesty of human justice, was all in God’s eternal plan that His Son should suffer and die as a man in order to pay the penalty for the sin of the whole world, including you and me. That is the way God chose to satisfy His eternal love for His creation and still remain true to His perfect righteousness and justice.
The resurrection was proof of the adequacy of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice. Having fully paid the penalty for everyone else's sin (which is death), there was no sin in Himself and therefore death could not keep hold of Him. It was inevitable, therefore, that He should rise again from death. Subsequently He was taken up to heaven, there to be exalted and glorified.
Easter is a special time when we remind ourselves of the wonderful truth of God's salvation that He offers freely to all those who recognise their need for forgiveness and a new way of life.
The children had their own activity evening in which the truths of new life were related back to eggs, the perennial symbol of Easter in the minds of most people. See the pictures below.
The adults enjoyed teaching on Good Friday and Easter Sunday from Romans chapter 6, where Paul speaks of being baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For those who missed any of the messages, they are available on CD or can be downloaded as MP3 files.
